Things to do
Sight see, game spot, relax and rejuvenate! With so much to see and do our in and around our quaint town, visitors will not be disappointed.
Lichtenburg, which was established in 1873, is situated approximately 210km west of Johannesburg on the main route (N14) to Mmabatho. Also known as ‘Wilgedorp’ because of the willow trees that line the streets, this historic town has many museums and monuments. These include exhibits of the alluvial diamond diggings at the Diggings Museum, the Ampie Bosman Cultural History Museum, which depicts the history of Lichtenburg and the “Wondergat” sinkhole, one of the deepest places in South Africa and famous for its scuba diving.
Two kilometres northeast of the town is the 4,500ha Lichtenburg Game Breeding Centre. Here you can see white rhino, blue wildebeest, zebra, impala and gemsbok all in their natural surroundings.
For golfing enthusiasts a 9-hole golf course awaits them at the Lichtenburg Golf Club.
